Trimethylolpropane Triglycidyl Ether YLD-6012: EEW

Trimethylolpropane Triglycidyl Ether YLD-6012: EEW
October 27, 2026

Trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether is a trifunctional aliphatic glycidyl ether supplied as YLD-6012 (CAS 30499-70-8). Yolatech lists it as a reactive diluent and toughening agent for solvent-free coatings and adhesives; the product page gives EEW 135–145 g/eq and viscosity 100–200 mPa·s at 25 °C.

Trimethylolpropane Triglycidyl Ether: What Three Epoxides Change

The molecule carries three glycidyl groups on a trimethylolpropane core, so it joins the network at three points instead of capping a chain. That separates it from monofunctional alkyl glycidyl ethers, which thin a system but consume epoxy sites. The product page reports good tensile, flexural, compressive and impact strength after cure.

At 100–200 mPa·s at 25 °C the grade sits two orders of magnitude below a liquid bisphenol A resin, quoted at 11000–15000 mPa·s. A 10–20 phr loading brings a filled system into a workable range, and the reduction persists after cure.

Published Specifications of YLD-6012

Table 1. Values as published on the YLD-6012 and YLD-6011 product pages; both are listed as transparent liquids.

Property YLD-6012 YLD-6011
CAS No. 30499-70-8 13236-02-7
EEW, g/eq 135–145 145–157
Viscosity, mPa·s at 25 °C 100–200 100–350
Color, APHA max. 40 max. 50
Hydrolyzable chlorine, % max. 0.3 max. 0.5
Inorganic chlorine, ppm max. 20 max. 20
Water, % max. 0.1 max. 0.1

Both grades are labelled trifunctional, yet the published epoxy equivalent implies a lower reactive count. Pure trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (C6H14O3, molecular weight 134) has a theoretical EEW near 101 g/eq; a measured 135–145 g/eq corresponds to about 2.1–2.2 epoxy groups per molecule, against 1.7–1.8 for the glycerol homologue. These values are calculated from the published EEW, so dosage should follow the equivalent, not the nominal label.

Dosage Calculated on the Bisphenol A Side

Dosage is set on the resin side. With YLH-9101 at AHEW 92 g/eq and YLE-128 at EEW 184–190 g/eq, 100 × 92 ÷ 190 gives 48 phr, which agrees with the figure published on the hardener page. A diluent shifts the mixed epoxy equivalent, and the requirement follows.

Table 2. Theoretical dosage for 100 parts YLE-128 at two diluent loadings, calculated as 100 × AHEW ÷ mixed EEW.

Blend Mixed EEW, g/eq YLH-9101, phr
YLE-128 alone 190 48
+ 15 YLD-6012 182 51
+ 25 YLD-6012 177 52
+ 15 YLD-6011 184 50
+ 25 YLD-6011 181 51

The movement is small, two to four phr, because both diluents carry epoxy equivalents below the base resin and pull the mixture toward a higher epoxide content. A titration on the production batch remains the reference.

Selection Notes and Next Step

YLD-6012 pairs the narrower viscosity band with the lower hydrolyzable chlorine ceiling, which matters where ionic contamination is controlled. YLD-6011 remains a general diluent for coatings and construction adhesives. Neither page publishes a recommended loading; 10–20 phr is an application range, not a published specification.

For a system already running YLH-9101, a ladder at 10 and 20 phr on the target resin settles loading faster than datasheet arithmetic. Sample and TDS requests for trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether can be placed through the YLD-6012 product page.
